26-year-old Alexis Castle brought her third cup of coffee to her lips, closing her eyes against the caffeine rush that no longer did much for her. Her meditative state was broken by the ringing of her cell phone. Setting her mug down, she groaned at the name that appeared on the caller ID.
"Hey, Jerry."
"Lexi! How's my star reporter?"
"She's relaxing on the first day she's had off in two years."
"Uh huh," he said, not really listening. "Listen, I need you to come in."
"You know, one day I'm going to quit and go write a novel."
Both knew she didn't mean it, leaving was a threat she'd made far too often for either of them to actually take it seriously.
"Yeah, right, Lexi. You know you'd miss me too much for that."
Rolling her eyes, but smiling nonetheless, Alexis sighed. "I'll be there in half-an-hour."
"That's my girl!"
